“A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.”  ― Carl Reiner

What is the Weather Like in Scottsdale?

Our weather in Scottsdale is almost always sunny, with a brief time of the year that is considered to be the "Rainy" or "Monsoon" season.  Many who live here year round look forward to the clear skies and perfect temperatures that stretch from about the end of September through mid May.  The summers are hot, but again for those who live here it is just a shift to a different set of outdoor activities.  Many families regularly enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and spending time outside as often as possible through the winter months.  Many have even added outdoor televisions on the patio areas so they can enjoy watching football games while sitting by the pool, knowing very well that others in the nation are bundled up in the middle of winter.  When searching for a home in Scottsdale, consider adding some outdoor living amenities to your list of things you are looking for in a home. You will find outdoor kitchens, gazebos, fire pits, water features and fountains, and many other items not commonly found in homes in other regions of the country.

How Hot are the Summers in Scottsdale?

The summers in Scottsdale are hot, but even when the warmer weather comes the outdoor activities remain the norm for most residents.  During the summer months, much of the time spent outdoors switches to water sports and water related activities.  From sitting by the pool to heading out to one of the many nearby lakes to wakeboard, swim, or sail, people always seem to stay busy outdoors despite the hotter temperatures.  Also, the old saying of "it's a dry heat" remains true, because even at it's hottest point in the year, the hot weather in Scottsdale with nearly zero humidity is much more comfortable than the moist heat of the southern states and other regions of the country. But as mentioned above, residents just find other things to do which keep them cool or they stay indoors a bit more.  Living in North America there are very few if any places where the weather can be considered perfect year round.  After having lived in the cold previously, many here would rather sweat a bit in the summer rather than scrape ice off their windshield in winter.  One other bonus, during the summer months many of the local resorts and golf clubs offer unheard of local discounts, making it impossible to resist a weekend in a four star luxury resort or a morning on a great golf course for nearly nothing.  Contact our office if you would like any additional tips or information about the weather in Scottsdale or the summer and winter Scottsdale activities and festivals.

Spring in Scottsdale

Spring in Scottsdale lasts from mid February through the end of April.  This is truly one of the times during the year when the weather is almost undoubtedly perfect.  With an average daily high of 77°-79°F and cooling down to the low 50°-55°F at night there are few places better to be in North America during this time of the year.  During spring in Scottsdale residents often find themselves dining outdoors at restaurants and home alike, while many visitors form colder climes come to visit the warmer weather and local attractions.  Spring in Scottsdale brings with it some of the best events of the year, such as the Phoenix Open which is also known as "The Greatest Show on Grass" where spectators can enjoy a party atmosphere and get up close to the top pros in the PGA.  Other favorite Scottsdale spring events include the Scottsdale Culinary Festival, famous car auctions such as Barrett-Jackson and Russo and Steele, and the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show.  Of course, no spring in Scottsdale would be complete without a visit to a spring training game to get up close to some of the nations best baseball talent and relax on the grass or in the stands of a smaller stadium.

Scottsdale's Dry Summer

The first portion of Scottsdale's summer lasts from the beginning of May through the end of June.  During these two months the highs average around 99°F, the air is dry, the skies are clear, and there is little to no precipitation.  In the evenings, it cools down to an average of 68°F and many restaurants and clubs find the patios of their establishments full.  While the cooler air of the mountains is less than two hours away, there are still plenty of things to do in Scottsdale during the summer months if you are looking for things to do outdoors.  For the younger crowd, many of the popular resorts such as the Valley Ho and the W Hotel have pool parties on the weekends, complete with live music and plenty of contests. Scottsdale is also surrounded by several lakes such as Bartlett Lake to the north, Lake Pleasant to the West, and Saguaro Lake to the East which make for perfect getaways during the summer months.  For a great weekend away from home, a quick search of Scottsdale's resorts will reveal rock bottom specials for a summer staycation.

Scottsdale's Monsoon Season

The second half of the summer in Scottsdale is the Wet Summer, but is more popularly called the Monsoon Season in Scottsdale by those that live here.  Monsoon Season lasts from the beginning of July until mid September, and temperatures are a bit warmer during this time of the year with an average high of 102°F and cooling down to an average of 77°F in the evenings.  The signature of Monsoon Season is the cooling afternoon thunderstorms which are drawn up from the Gulf of Mexico into the Scottsdale area.  Locals love this time of year, and truly look forward to the rain that is received as well as the cooling effect that the storms have on the hotter weather.  The humidity increases a bit as a result of the added moisture in the air and the rainfall, but is still considered to be mild to moderate in comparison to other places. All of the activities enjoyed in the area during the dry summer months are available and continue to be popular through the monsoon season as well.  For many who live here, this is one of the favorite times of the year for Scottsdale weather.

Fall in Scottsdale
